![]() ![]() ![]() 400 Degreez delivers on that promise from the word go, with Juvenile’s smooth delivery on “Ha” creating an instant classic. The album has two essential goals: to portray Juvenile as a free-flowing, swaggering, cool motherfucker and to load each song with enough hot beats and hooks so that they stick in your head for days. However, if you come to 400 Degreez looking for anything other than a good time, you’re kind of missing the point. Younger me probably would have hated this album by virtue of it being a party album without a whole lot of depth. High Points: Some younger critics have a hard time evaluating a work on its own terms, but that seems to be less and less of an issue nowadays, and the critical re-evaluation of 400 Degreez is a good example of this. Having said that, you’d be hard-pressed to find a person around my age who hasn’t heard “Back That Azz Up.” Have I Heard This Album Before?: This came out before I really got into rap, and its critical stature has only just shifted, so this is the first time I’m getting around to the whole album. ![]()
